Year after year, for decades, we've all heard and told stories of the people who created Camp UniStar: the Andersons, who gave us the facilities, Alicia Clagett who had the vision of a family camp, and the founding families who worked hard to put it all together. These people took a lodge and five cabins on an island in northern Minnesota and turned it into a place where thousands of us have found community. Now it's our chance to live the stories our children will tell and create the future for Camp UniStar.
Each one of us believes that UniStar is our own special place, but we probably haven't thought of it as a place that needs a lot of money. It's rustic with free-roaming mice, old nails for clothes hooks, and spidery showers. Because we have a volunteer management committee, the modest fees we pay cover the costs of running Camp each summer. In other times it needed start-up vision, it needed paint and repairs, it needed care we could lovingly give in our spare time. Now it needs more, approximately $500,000 more! UniStar needs a new kitchen.
Please take some time to think about what UniStar means to you and your family and consider carefully what you can contribute. Every gift is important, no matter the size. Be generous within your means in the spirit of Camp UniStar which has been so generous to us all. What we give back to any community is the real measure of what that community has meant to us. Let's all hear the "Call of the Conch" and give as we have received.

When to Give
Please wait until you hear from us before deciding on your gift. We want to be sure that you have all the information needed to make a gift that is right for you as well as for Camp UniStar.
From early February right into spring, volunteer canvassers will contact everyone in our UniStar community to give more information, answer questions, and ask for your support. This will be done either by phone, a visit, or a letter. During this time, you can also ask questions through our new website. If you are not called by a canvasser but would like a personal visit by one, please call campaign co-chairs:

How to Give
Your gift may be spread out over three years, and can be broken down into convenient monthly payments. With good financial planning and advice there are many creative ways to contribute. Here are just a few ideas for making a substantial pledge to the capital campaign:
• Pay UniStar, not the bank
Instead of trading in your recently paid-off car which still runs great and gets 33 miles per gallon, keep it and make that $350 monthly payment to Camp UniStar. Over 3 years, you will donate $12,600 to the capital campaign!
• Make a gift of your gifts
Our community is full of talent disguised as hobbies. Can you sell your art, perform your music, or teach that Community Ed. computer course to pay your pledge?
• Put stock into your UniStar experience
If you have money tied up in stocks and mutual funds, you can simply transfer some of these assets to Camp electronically. You may even be able to make a gift of depreciated stocks and receive a tax break as well.
• House our UniStar dream
Are you planning to sell some real estate in the next three years? You can invest the profit in a place you truly love - Camp's new kitchen.
• A dollar a day for the kitchen I'll pay
Many of us are on fixed or limited incomes. However, a donation of only a dollar a day will add up to over $1,000 over three years. That one dollar could come from ordering a regular coffee instead of the latte mocha with whipped cream and sprinkles on top.
We welcome everyone to the
community of giving for a cause
we all hold dear to our hearts!
