2006 Capital Campaign
We did it! Thanks to the caring generosity of over 225 campers, the fundraising goal for our new kitchen has been reached and exceeded. This collective stewardship of Camp UniStar ensures that we will enjoy the new kitchen next summer and for decades to come. However our capital campaign is not over. As many of you may know, the cost of such a large construction project is never set in stone in the early phases. Until the final contracts are signed the costs fluctuate. In the case of our project, the costs have gone up significantly due to at least two factors outside of our control. Hurricane Katrina resulted in very large increases in the price of construction materials, particularly steel and copper which will be used in quantity in the new kitchen. And of course, the increase in fuel prices certainly impacts us since materials and workers must be transported via boat or ice road to Star Island. The final project costs when the contracts are signed this summer will come in around $725,000. To reach this number, our project management team meticulously went over the design plan, trimming out nonessential items and temporarily reusing old equipment where possible. Their hard work ensures that our new kitchen will be up and running on schedule! The continued fundraising this summer will help us to follow through with new furnishings! If you haven't yet donated, we invite you to do so by downloading a pledge form from this website. If you've already given, we welcome any extra gift to help truly complete our new space. Questions?
